Cet article s’intéresse aux rapports de la philologie, telle qu’elle est pratiquée dans la Symbolique et mythologie des peuples anciens (1810-12) de Friedrich Creuzer, avec la philosophie. Après avoir reconstitué la visée de l’ouvrage puis la conception du symbole et du mythe qui en forme le fondement spéculatif, on s’intéresse à la manière dont Hegel, dans sa conception du symbole, et Schelling, dans sa philosophie de la mythologie, réinterprètent la somme de Creuzer autour de points centraux pour leurs propres entreprises, comme la question de la naissance à soi-même de la conscience humaine ou celle du rapport de la rationalité à l’historicité et à la facticité.
This article deals with the relationship between philology - as employed in Friedrich Creuzer’s work Symbolik und Mythologie der alten Völker (Symbolism and Mythology of the ancient Peoples, 1810-12) - and philosophy. After reconstructing the aims of this work and the conception of symbol and myth that forms its speculative foundation, we examine the manner in which Hegel, in his conception of the symbol, and Schelling, in his philosophy of mythology, reinterpret Creuzer’s work with respect to central points of their own respective undertakings : the question of the birth of human self-consciousness or the problem of the relationship of rationality to historicity and facticity.
