Jusqu’à ces dernières années, les archives sonores du théâtre n’avaient quasiment jamais été exploitées par les théâtrologues, qui ont entrepris de le faire et de réfléchir aux raisons de leur longue surdité. Or, à de rares exceptions près, les littéraires spécialistes de théâtre ne les ont pas exploitées non plus. Après m’être interrogée sur ce double oubli, je tenterai de montrer, en prenant l’exemple des enregistrements audio de représentations en public et en m’appuyant sur la façon dont les premiers les ont écoutés dans deux cas très différents, comment les seconds pourraient eux aussi tirer profit de ce type de documents.

Until recent years, the sound archives of theatre had almost never been explored by theatrologists, who undertook to do so and to reflect on the reasons for their long deafness. Yet, with rare exceptions, literary theater specialists have not explored them either. After having questioned myself on this double oversight, I will try to show, by taking the example of audio recordings of performances in public and relying on the way in which the former listened to them in two very different cases, how the latter could also benefit from this type of document.
