Comment penser la manière dont un édifice symbolise, sans réduire ce symbolisme à l’adjonction extérieure d’une signification qui a été déterminée hors du contact même avec l’objet ? La dimension technique d’un produit du design peut-elle être comprise comme partie prenante de l’expérience esthétique que nous en avons ? L’article montre comment, dans l’esthétique psychologique des arts techniques développée par Theodor Lipps (1851-1914), ce problème est réarticulé autour de la notion d’Einfühlung. Celle-ci est spécifiée en fonction de la résonance affective, dans le sujet, des trois aspects perçus de l’objet technique (matériel, formel et d’usage).
How can we think the way a building symbolizes, without reducing it to a meaning not immediately tied to our experience of this object ? Is it possible to reflect on the technical aspect of a design product as a part of the aesthetic experience of this product ? In this paper I aim to study how Theodor Lipps (1851-1914) reelaborates this problem in his psychological aesthetics of technical arts, using the notion of Einfühlung (empathy). He determines the content of this notion more precisely according to the echoing feeling that binds the three dimensions of technical objects (matter, form, and use) to the subject.
